FROM A SOVEREIGN RATING UPGRADE TO BETTER CAPITAL ALLOCATION

VIET Transformation Advisors on VTV4 | Thời sự 21H | 18 October 2026

In the Thời sự 21H news programme broadcast on VTV4 on 18 October 2026, Prof. Dr. Sven David, Founder and CEO of VIET Transformation Advisors, discussed Japan’s R&I upgrade of Vietnam’s foreign-currency issuer credit rating from BB+ to BBB− and the conditions needed to translate this positive signal into sustainable economic benefits.

His central focus was the quality of credit allocation. Higher lending volumes generate lasting value only if investment improves productivity, produces reliable cash flows and supports borrowers’ repayment capacity. Banks should therefore assess cash-flow generation alongside collateral, while businesses need stronger financial transparency and governance.

On long-term financing costs, he also highlighted the importance of investor protection, deeper bond markets, a broader base of institutional investors and effective foreign-exchange risk management. A stronger credit rating can open doors; the efficiency of capital allocation determines how much economic value is created.

Key message: Sustainable growth requires not simply more capital, but better capital allocation.
